What is #freemaomao? And why it's important.

If you've been scrolling on Twitter, you might've encountered a trending hashtag titled, "#freemaomao". You're confused on what it means.

The reason why you probably seen that hashtag trend is because a couple of fans are trying to tell Cartoon Network to release Season 2 of one of their shows, "Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart". However, CN has been ignoring the fans and has been quiet about Mao Mao. They even disabled comments on some of their Instagram posts and one person who participated in the Cartoon Network palette challenge who drew one of the characters from that show, wasn't featured on CN's socials.

But what is "Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart"? Again, it's a Cartoon Network show with wonderful animation and cute characters. Here's a description:

"This high-octane animated series from creator Parker Simmons follows the adventures of Sheriff Mao Mao, a samurai cat with a hankering for derring-do who becomes waylaid in Pure Heart Valley along with his slacker best friend, Badgerclops. Led by King Snugglemagne, the Sweety Pies of Pure Heart are cute and cuddly, but otherwise pretty much helpless. Luckily, the residents have the heroic Mao Mao, oafish Badgerclops, and new adorable sidekick Adorabat to protect them from monsters, villains and all kinds of bad stuff."

And it's worth checking out! When I first watched the show, it reminded me of old shows I used to watch back in the day, something like a Saturday morning cartoon. Just take a look at a clip from the show (UPDATE: THE CLIP IS NO LONGER AVALIABLE DUE TO CN QUIELTY TAKING MM RELATED CLIPS OFF THEIR CHANNEL).

The creator, Parker Simmons voices the protagonist, and he has been talking to the fans on Twitter. When Season 2 got announced, I was excited! And then 2 years later... no news. What is going on? Has the series been quietly cancelled? I don't think so, but Cartoon Network has been ignoring the show now and only cares about the awful "Teen Titans GO".

When the show's third anniversary happened, a Twitter user named Mao Mao's Mother announced to spread this hashtag: "#freemaomao" and also to comment the tag on Cartoon Network's social accounts and also tag them. I participated as well. And the hashtag was trending but it wasn't enough. We tried again on June 6th, it might've worked. It probably didn't.

What can you do to help bring awareness to release Season 2 of this show? Well, spread the hashtag #freemaomao on your socials and do tag Cartoon Network! Make sure they listen! Draw more fanart and make some edits or memes, I don't know. This show deserves a Season 2 because it's amazing! And go support Parker Simmons @ Twitter and check out the people who worked on the show and the VAs, plus watch the show on HBO Max.

The more we get this tag spread around, then the high chance Cartoon Network can listen. But for now, CN just doesn't care anymore about MMHOPH. And fans (including myself) don't want that.

#freemaomao!
